Initial Idea

My idea for the project was to create a collectible 'chess knight' figure, that could be adapted into future iterations for all the various pieces in a set.

Packaging Design

For the design, I made sure to create a die-line that folded correctly, and designed the package to fit the toy and sell it as a futuristic, cyberpunk style.

Modeling Process

I used Blender 3D to model my idea, making sure to create it using the best practices for mesh topology, to make it easy to 3D print. I also hollowed out the model so as to use less printing material, making it cheaper to print.

Final Product

After a few printing errors, I finally got a great looking 3D model. I painted it and used a matte coating to finish and seal it. Additionally, I added a magnet and padding to the base to make it sit in the packaging well. Finally, I printed the packaging on heavy card-stock and added a plastic screen to display the toy.
